Voyageur Restaurant
I went to Voyageur Restaurant in Cardinal, ON for an early dinner on a Thursday night. Voyageur is famous in throughout Cardinal and the surrounding towns for its great food and friendly atmosphere.
Price/Value
The burger ran me eleven dollars which is the most expensive burger I’ve had thus far. The burger was well worth the extra few dollars though. The Patty (combination of beef & lamb) was generously portioned in a huge patty and it came with a large amount of fries. The taste was decadent and the extra few dollars went a long way in that category. Really it was a great value because of the amazing quality of the ingredients and the preparation that went into making the burger. I got more than I was expecting because it was expensive but even better tasting than I thought it would be. Score 9/10, big burger, great taste, moderate price.
Food
I had the Johns burger which is just a standard cheeseburger. The burger comes with a prime angus patty that is very flavorful. The patty was cooked to order, and was running with juices. The lamb & beef was tasteful and definitely not the beef you find at a fast food joint. The patty was over a quarter pound in size topped with a slice of ham and pea-meal bacon. It was quite large, and I was pleasantly surprised at its size. I had cheddar cheese and it was melted perfectly onto the patty. The cheese was far from a Kraft single. Probably cut off a block from a cheese shop. They worked great together. The vegetables were crisp and fresh. The lettuce was a full piece unlike fast food places which has measly strips of lettuce on a burger. The Tomato was beefeaters. The sauce was a house blend secret sauce. The bun was a brioche bun. This was a great touch. It was soft and soaked up the meat juices well while still keeping a dry top and bottom. Score 9/10, the burger was one of the best I’ve had so far.
Variety
I’m excluding Voyageur from this section because it is not a burger restaurant and burger is just one of the many varied offerings that Voyageur has.
Atmosphere
The waitstaff and bartenders were all helpful and friendly. The dining room is dim and is a great place for a casual dinner or a date. The floor and tables are all clean and the decor all works well together. The bar area is more happening then the dining room with three televisions which were playing a Blue Jays game. Score 9/10, everything is really nice inside and it is nothing like a chain restaurant.
Overall
Final Score is a 9/10, I see myself going back to Voyageur on a couple dates here and there for a great sit down meal.
